Sur la Route vers GRAND CANYON - Arizona ... arrêt à HOOVER DAM - Utah

Updated: Jan 24, 2022

Saturday, March 7th - Day 20

180 Miles

We got up at dawn for a departure towards GRAND CANYON with a stop planned on the road at the HOOVER DAM, passage by the Route 66 and stop for a night in a Dry camp to be found.

We are ready for a departure at 7:30 am but it is without counting on the technical problems of the truck: the luminous indicator of the DEF lights up by intermittence.

After the research and the usual controls we take the road with a lot of caution not very reassured but nothing to do in the desert for the moment!

CORN CREEK - Las Vegas - Nevada

The road is beautiful and we can admire the landscapes as far as the eye can see.

9:30 am - Stop at HOOVER DAM which makes the border between Nevada and Arizona with a time change.

Nevada is in winter time (UTC -8) and Arizona (UTC -7) remained in summer time... unless it is the opposite?

The sky is blue but it is very windy.

We pass through a security barrier. The RV is controlled: bunkers and interior of the truck, identity of the persons with prohibition of possession of weapons: we enter a strictly protected place TOP DEFENSE!

We prefer to park WILLIRoad a little further and finish the journey and the visit by car for more ease.

We leave again at the end of the morning towards KINGSMAN

Arizona appears to us greener than Nevada which we leave.

We follow the mythical Route 66. Mythical but old-fashioned: everything seems to have stopped 100 years ago. Dilapidated houses, carcasses of cars in the gardens...

We fill up with Diesel for the RV very happy to find a truck pump that allows us to fill both tanks simultaneously. It is without counting on the 0.30$/Ga of surtax for the truck pump. One will not take us again there.

KINGSMAN, stop on the carpark of WALMART which does not accept the parking of the RV for the night (municipal decree). Decidedly Arizona is not very favorable to us.

We continue our road until a place of camp located in the middle of nowhere.

After some interrogations we will find the booklet to fill in the iron case located at the entry.

This usual way of functioning in the United States is very new for us. We find this organization super well.

We settle in the middle of nowhere in the dust raised by the wind.

No courage to light a BBQ.

Cards evening and quiet meal.

Sunday, March 8th - Day 21

154 Miles

We left the camp at 8 am after having given back our badge and filled in the booklet.

Road to GRAND CANYON.

Again full of RV at ASH FORK to avoid being stuck in the Park like in Death Valley!

11am: arrival at TUSAYAN last village before the entrance.

We proceed to our registration at the RV Camp and go to "park" ourselves at the assigned place (N92) between two other RV.

Quick meal and installation in our stall with water and electricity connections.

We leave to discover the GRAND CANYON.
