Day 29
Still in an end of the world atmosphere, we start the day.
The day before we went to the local supermarket to do some additional shopping. Rice and pasta shelves are empty. No more toilet paper. Impossible to find Rum for the realization of our antibacterial syrup: all the remedies are good to test by the times which run. Rum is absent from the shelves like all the other alcohols: we are in Mormon country!
8:15 am Two of us (Vincent and Annick) go to the Visitor Center of KANAB for the draw of THE WAVE tour.
There is a crowd in the Center ... not very serious in the context of the Coronavirus crisis.
We are welcomed by a Ranger who explains the rules of the lottery.
1 member / group registers his group then hands in his copy which will be numbered.
We have the number 40.
At 9 o'clock the draw is made among the 55 groups present (2 to 6 people maximum). A first group of 2 is drawn then a second, a third group of 5, there is only one place left for a last group of 2. That's it... lost for us this day !
We will come back tomorrow to try our luck a second time.
During this time, Gauthier makes a quick cleaning of the RV to drive it to the garage LITTLE'S where we have to do the balancing and the parallelism.
Indeed, we find that the truck waddles a little too much for our taste.
We find it again at the end of the morning after a new passage in another supermarket always in search of Rum and hydroalcoholic gel.
Still no alcohol wind. Devitalized by the crisis the shelves are empty.
Of course we won't find any hydroalcoholic gel but above all, we will be rationed on the chosen articles.
Authorized to buy only 2 copies of an article and only 1 copy of meat and cheese, limited to 2 Gallons (9 liters) of milk and water per passage... The supply of food is going to become complicated and to question our organization;
The war is well established.
The work on the truck requiring once more time, we decide to return to finish our visit to ZION NP and to discover the East of the Park with the passage under the tunnel.
At noon we stop before the entrance of the Park in the only civilized place that we cross.
We are alone in the middle of nowhere.
The meal in the BUFFALO GRILL allows us to discover the buffalo meat.
For once our waitress is not very friendly. Stressed?
The circuit by the East of the Park is very different from the South side. The climate is much less mild than the day before and we have plenty of time to admire the beauty of the surrounding rocks.
The evening bivouac remains a recurrent questioning, relatively difficult in "wild camping" version considering the weather of the last days which made the access to the spots impossible.
Back to the garage we have the confirmation of the problem of alignment of the trains of the truck. We hope that the roads will now be easier to follow.
On the advice of the Ranger of the Visitor Center of KANAB, we decide to go to the BLM of PONDEROSA GROVE in KANAB. Much more distant than indicated, we find ourselves in the middle of nature.
We have some hesitations to go back (the BLM is limited to 24 ft or 7 meters and we do 36 ft or 11 meters)! We are alone and we can choose our spot for the night. It's EXTRA.
Gauthier quickly lights the fire in the soaked brazier. Our supply of logs has also taken on water. We will never have a fire this day and we will finish the evening by preparing our meal on our gas BBQ.
Quickly the neighboring spots are occupied for the evening by groups who seem to have spent the day buggying in the dunes.
Cool evening, we are warm in the RV.
On the other side of the world France has just declared the confinement because of Coronavirus.
As for us, we wait to know what will be decided the next days.
